WEBSTER COUNTY, Ky. (4/24/13) - Fall Shoe Sizing Day for the Webster County Happy Feet Equals Learning Feet program will be held May 16, 2013 at Dixon Elementary.
Children who have been identified by the Family Resource and Youth Service Center (FRYSC) coordinators at each of the schools in the county will travel to Dixon, where they will be sized and have the opportunity to pick their shoes.
“Children get to choose from at least two different styles in their size and they are name brand, quality tennis shoes,” said Cassie Corbett from Independence Bank in Providence, a member of the Happy Feet Board.”The shoes will be delivered before school starts in the fall.”
“I can remember that new shoes to start the school year was a big deal when I was a child,” said Debbie Winstead with Happy Feet. “Mom would take us to Wilkerson Shoe’s and we would get a pair of Red Goose Shoes and get the coveted Red Goose Egg. I want every child to have that feeling. My first year to participate in measuring day was a very blessed day! To see those happy faces and know that our mission “Happy Feet=Learning Feet” has been fulfilled.”
2013 is the 3rd year that the Webster County School District has participated in the Happy Feet Program. Last year they provided shoes for 325 children, and this year they hope to exceed that number.
“I cannot express enough how wonderful this program is for the children in our communities,” said Corbett. “It instills pride and confidence, which flows over to their schooling and everyday life. Nothing is more satisfying than seeing a child smile and to see the pride in their eyes when they put their new shoes on for the first time. This is truly a program that blesses you with so much more joy than you could ever imagine! “
