Country Singer Wynonna Judd Shows Support with Prayers for Watson Family

Wynonna Judd with Watson family 2 5 2014 500x375NASHVILLE, Tenn. (2/5/14) — The Watson family received a visit and prayers from fellow Kentuckian Wynonna Judd Wednesday, according to Pastor Adam Brown.

Brown is the cousin of Chad Watson, who suffered life-threatening burns while attempting to save his wife and children when their home in Depoy burned to the ground last Thursday.

All except Chad Watson and his 11-year-old daughter Kylie perished in the blaze.

Brown spoke with SurfKY News, describing Wynonna's visit to the Vanderbilt Burn Unit, where Chad and Kylie continue to fight for their lives.

"Wynonna heard about the story, and being from Kentucky herself, she told us last night she was immediately moved with sadness and grief." Brown said. "She just has a soft spot for Kentucky and Kentuckians. She contacted a hospital caseworker a few days ago. She asked if the Watson family would mind if she came by to visit. She just wanted to know if there was anything, she could do. She didn't want any publicity. There were no media or TV. cameras allowed. Only the family's phone cameras were allowed in the room." Brown said.

Brown said he was touched by the amount of time Wynonna spent with the family during her visit.

"She spent well over an hour with us, hugging every person in the room, and sharing so many words of wisdom." Brown said. "She told us about the tragedies in her own life. Somehow, she just related so well to the sadness that we had. It was like having a mother hen in the room. Everyone just grew so close to her so fast. She talked and grieved with my mother and Chad's mother. Wynonna's husband led us in prayer. Then Wynonna led us in prayer. It was a bright spot in all this tragedy. It was a good day." Brown said.

Funeral services for the nine members of the family who perished in the fire are scheduled for this Saturday at the Felix Martin Hall on the campus of Muhlenberg County High School.

Immediate family visitation begins at 9:30 a.m., with extended family visitation at 10 a.m., and public visitation at 11 a.m.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. with burial to follow at the Oak Grove Church cemetery in Depoy.
