Brumfield Farmers Market Burglarized

brum burgMADISONVILLE, KY (3/13/13) - A robbery was reported this morning, Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Brumfield Farm Market on U.S. Highway 41A (Nebo Road)

The store is located right beside the stop light at the intersection of Industrial Drive and Nebo Road across from the Land O’ Frost plant. It has been open about four years, selling farm raised foods and canned or jarred fruit and vegetables, along with grains and candles and baked goods.

Owner, Linda Brumfield spoke with SurfKY News about the incident that took place sometime between yesterday evening after the store closed at 3:00 PM and this morning when the store opened at around 10:30 AM.  Brumfield said she opened the store from the side door, as usual, with her friend Kathy when the two women noticed that all of the cards from the counter were strewn onto the floor by the front door and cash register, which they noticed at the time to be missing. The cash register usually sits under a computer screen and is a heavy black box that, unfortunately, still had some cash in it from yesterday’s business. There was a back-up register sitting in place of the stolen one by the time reporters arrived at the store this afternoon.

Brumfield owns the store with her husband, David and they currently employ four other people. Linda said they have no particular suspects in mind as to who could be responsible for the theft, however the same thing happened last July 2012 and no one was ever apprehended for that crime. “There was cash in it both times this has happened, though not that much this time. It will not happen again,” exclaimed Brumfield.

Upon noticing the register missing, the women checked around the store to find the entryway in which the burglar forced themselves in. Linda said they immediately called the Hopkins County Sherriff’s Department to report the incident and Deputy Lydon Logan came out to investigate.

Deputy Logan will be handling any further investigations in the incident as well. Deputy Logan is currently reviewing surveillance footage that may show the suspect committing the crime. If you have any information about this crime, please call the Hopkins Co. Sherriff’s Dept. at (270) 821-5661. Your call and report may remain anonymous if you wish.
