Whitfield Announces Grants for Richland Fire Department and Other

fire dept badgeHOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (4/11/13) – U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield, (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, today announced that Richland Volunteer Fire Department in Hopkins County and the City of Fulton Fire Department in Fulton County are both recipients of Operations and Safety funding grants secured under the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“Firefighting grants help ensure that our first responders have the resources they need to serve our communities,” stated Whitfield. “I congratulate Richland Volunteer Fire Department and the City of Fulton Fire Department for receiving these awards.”

Richland Volunteer Fire Department has received a $34,115 grant and the City of Fulton Fire Department has received a $39,805 grant. The purpose of the AFG is to award grants directly to fire departments and Emergency Medical Services organizations (EMS) that are unaffiliated with a hospital to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first-responder personnel. Using a competitive process that is overseen by fire service subject matter experts, grants are awarded to applicants whose requests best address the priorities of the AFG program.

More information can be found on the web at http://www.fema.gov/firegrants.
