Meadow Lands to Host Fighter Jet at Upcoming Air Show

oboro air show 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (9/13/13) – Meadow Lands Elementary School will host the pilot and ground crew of an F-18 Hornet fighter jet from the Royal Canadian Air Force. The jet will be in Daviess County as part of the upcoming Owensboro Air Show (Sept. 20-21 at the Owensboro Regional Airport and downtown).

According to the official website for this event “The CF-18 Demo Team … personifies the excellence required to keep the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) among the best aviation organizations on the planet. The expertise and dedication required by the team, from the pilot to the maintenance crews to the coordinators, reflects the professionalism of all of Canada's airmen and airwomen. The RCAF has an important role in the North; to operate in that region on a regular basis conducting aerial sovereignty, reconnaissance and surveillance patrols, carrying out search and rescue operations, defending the airspace of Canada and the United States through our commitments to NORAD, and enabling operations such as Op Nanook, Op Nunalivut and Op Nunakput.”

The student presentation will include video of the jet and its maneuvers. In addition, the pilot and crew will talk about the importance of teamwork, discipline and setting goals for excellence. The team will also answer students’ questions and sign autographs.

MLES Principal Kevin Lowe said the program will reinforce student learning in the areas of scale, models, physical environment, motion, force and change.

The 45-minute program will begin at 10:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at Meadow Lands Elementary School. MLES is located at 3500 Hayden Road.
