OWENSBORO, Ky. (10/18/13) – The City of Owensboro conducted a media tour of the Owensboro Convention Center, as work continued yesterday on the facility slated to open in January 2014. Among the points of interest during the tour:
•177,000 square feet for entire building;
•Building is laid out in three separate areas, almost three shoebox shapes;
•Three artist with the their artwork in the lobby, one of which is from Owensboro and graduated from Daviess County;
•16,000 square feet in the lobby area;
• Windows in the lobby are two inches thick;
•The 48,000 square foot back from with 30 foot sealing and movable walls;
•16 foot doors that will allow large items like fire trucks to enter into rear of building;
•The floor can handle more weight than average highways;
•2 13,000 square foot ballrooms on top floor that can have up to 700 people;
•Dean Dennis, “State of the art convention center”;
•State of the art kitchen, can feed both ballrooms that are both at capacity;
•Expecting 2,300-2,500 people for opening gala;
•Everything is on wheels and can move;
•Already have $850,000 on the books from Jan 31 – Jun 30;
•2 million on books through 2018.
