v wood1PROVIDENCE, Ky. (8/27/13) – Born in Hopkins County on August 26, 1906, Virgil Wood celebrates his 107th birthday at his place of residence at Palmer Place Retirement Home in Providence, Kentucky.
 
Mr. Wood has lived around Hopkins and Webster Counties his whole life. Wood was married twice and had one son and one step-daughter. Throughout his life, Mr. Wood was a farmer, worked for a factory and kept the streets of Providence clean.
 
Wood attends church at the retirement center on Sunday’s and continues to sweep all the sidewalks around the center.
 
“They can’t keep him in,” said Della Gobin, Stepdaughter of Wood. “He keeps a broom in his hand all the time.”
 
Mr. Wood loves to make jokes, sing and visit with his family.
“I take him out sometimes to see my son and his great great grandkids,” said Gobin. “He likes to play with the little boys and girls.”
 
Wood visited his family over the weekend to celebrate his 107 years of life.
