MURRAY, Ky. (5/3/13) – For the second-straight year, Murray State outfielder Paul Ritzheimer was selected to the Capitol One Academic All-District 2 Baseball team by CoSIDA. District 2 covers the states of Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, as well as the District of Columbia.
In 2012, Ritzheimer became the first MSU baseball player to be selected to the Capitol One Academic All-America First Team. He is one of four Breds, joining Carrell Boyd (3rd Team, 1983), Wes Cunningham (2nd Team, 2010) and Travis Isaak (2nd Team, 2012) to earn Academic All-America honors from CoSIDA.
Academic achievement is nothing new to Ritzheimer, who owns a perfect 4.0 GPA in geoscience. As a sophomore, Ritzheimer was the recipient of the 2011 Ohio Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Award, the highest academic honor awarded by the league.
On the field, Ritzheimer is hitting .255 with six doubles and 18 RBIs in 44 games. He leads the team with 13 hit by pitches, and ranks third with .395 on-base percentage. His four outfield assists rank second on the team.
Ritzheimer is now eligible for the Capitol One Academic All-America team that will be released later this month.
