UK Soccer 300LEXINGTON, Ky. (10/14/13) – Sophomore goalkeeper Callum Irving saved three shots to lead Kentucky to a shutout in a scoreless draw with South Carolina, on a perfect Sunday afternoon at the UK Soccer Complex.

Kentucky (3-6-1, 1-1-1 Conference USA) took its first draw of the year in the scoreless tie with the Gamecocks. UK dominated play throughout the game, owning a 28-11 advantage in shots and a 10-6 advantage in corner kicks. Over the final 20 minutes of overtime, UK held a 13-1 advantage in shots.

South Carolina (4-5-3, 1-1-1 C-USA) mustered 11 shots in the game, with seven coming in the second period, getting just one shot off in the pair of overtimes. USC keeper Marco Velez saved six shots in 110 minutes.

A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Irving notched his third shutout of the year in his seventh start. Irving finished with three saves in 110 minutes, limiting the Gamecocks to just the three shots on target.

The Wildcats got a strong effort from its backline of center backs Steven Perinovic and Jaytoe Teh, with outside backs Isak Krogstad and Jordan Wilson – making his first career start at outside back – helping stabilize the shutout. Perinovic, a preseason All-America and All-Conference USA honoree, won a season-high 17-of-21 contested header attempts in the game, helping lower UK’s goals-against average to 1.26.

In the midfield, UK got four-shot outings from senior Brad Doliner and freshman Charlie Reymann, with forward Tyler Riggs contributing five shots. Sophomore Bryan Celis returned from injury after missing the last eight games to fire two shots in 97 minutes, with freshman Napo Matsoso lofting a pair of shots.

Kentucky returns to action on Wednesday, hosting Valparaiso in non-conference action at 7 p.m. ET at the UK Soccer Complex.
