Wildcats Save Best Round for Final Day to Finish Fifth

UK Golf 300LEXINGTON, Ky. (10/16/13) – On the final day of the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic, the University of Kentucky men’s golf team shot up the leaderboard with a season-best round of 275 to finish fifth at eight-under par (856) for the tournament. Kentucky has now finished in the top five in all three tournaments this season.

The Wildcats 13-under par day was five strokes better than the next closest team on Tuesday, while the third round score of 275 is tied for the second-best team round under head coach Brian Craig. Entering the final round, UK was in 11th place at five-over par. Four of the five players in the UK lineup recorded under-par rounds Tuesday, led by senior Ben Stow’s seven-under par, 65.

Kentucky’s final score of 856 is 26 strokes better than the previous season-low of 882 at the Wolf Run Invitational. The 54-hole score of 856 also ranks in a tie for 10th-best all-time in program history.

“I am really proud of our effort today,” Craig said. “Ben Stow and David Snyder led the way for the low rounds of the day. We finished on a good note and did a better job of handling the Bermuda grass around the greens today. This team can play and it was fun to see our performance today. We need to build on this round going into the Ocean Course event in our next competition.”

Georgia State won the event with a final score of 19-under par. The Panthers were followed by South Florida (-17), South Alabama (-15), Chattanooga (-9) and the Wildcats (-8) in the top five.

The rest of the team standings are rounded out with Mercer (-5), Georgia Southern (-3), VCU (-3), UNC Greensboro (+3), Ole Miss (+5), Troy (+9), Furman (+18), Michigan (+20) and South Carolina-Aiken (+20).

Stow’s final round of seven-under par, 65, ranks in a tie for second as the best individual round in the Craig era. The Salisbury, England, native finished the tournament tied for fourth at seven-under par, 209. It marks his first top-five finish of the season and second top 10. Stow registered 15 birdies for the tournament, which tied him with Snyder for a tournament-best.

Snyder recorded a three-under par, 69, on the final day to move him up the leaderboard and into the top 20. He finished the tournament tied for 15th at three-under par, 213. His three-round score of 213 is a season-best after putting together a 217 in the season-opening tournament which he tied for ninth. He now has finished in the top 15 in all three tournaments this season.

Senior Stephen Powers notched a one-under par, 71, in the final round to give him a final score of four-over par, 220, which placed him in a tie for 43rd. Powers has recorded a par or better round in each tournament this season. Finishing just a stroke behind Powers was senior Cody Martin at five-over par, 221, which tied him for 50th. Martin turned in a scorecard of three-over par, 75, on Tuesday to wrap up his 54 holes.

Sophomore Harrison Greenberry registered his best round of the tournament on the final day with a two-under par, 70. Greenberry tied for 63rd at eight-over par (224). Rounding out the UK competitors was junior Will Bishop, who played as an individual. Bishop also improved round-to-round as he shot a two-over par, 74, on the final day of play. He tied for 80th at 16-over par (232).
