6.-2014-Banquet---Primary-Art-Winner---Reme-Witman2014 Conservation District Banquet Primary Art Winner, Reme Witman.MADISONVILLE, Ky. (3/19/14) — Hopkins County Conservation District held their annual awards banquet at the Ballard Convention Center, Feb. 25, 2014.

There were over two hundred people in attendance.

The Conservation District honored nine adult citizens for outstanding accomplishments.

Each was awarded a plaque.

The recipients were: Danny Peyton, Community Service Award; William and Becky Slaton, Conservation Management Award; Thomas Young, Environmental Award; Kitty Simpson, Honor Award; Greg Ranes, Master Conservationist; Joe Blue, Take Pride in Hopkins County Award; Mike Donaldson, Wildlife Conservation Award; Danny Brooks, Special Recognition Award; and Alaina Boyd and Jim Bragg, Conservation Educators of the Year.

The Conservation District and Kentucky Farm Bureau sponsor an annual Art and Essay contest every year.

There were 1, 231 students who participated in the Essay Contest. This year the district honored two schools with a plaque and a $90 check for having 100% participation in the Essay contest. The two schools were Christ the King and Browning Springs Middle School.

There were seven schools that had 100% participation in the Jim Claypool Art contest.

They were Christ the King, Earlington Elementary, Grapevine Elementary, Jesse Stuart Elementary, Pride Elementary, Southside Elementary and West Broadway Elementary. These elementary schools received a plaque and a $90 check.

There were 12 students who received a monetary prize for being one of three winners in the Conservation Essay contest from their school.

From Browning Springs

  • 3rd place - Blake Winningham

  • 2nd place – Chandler Moore

  • 1st place - Justin Cates

From Christ the King

  • 3rd place – Dominic Pitocco

  • 2nd place - Sarah Littlehale

  • 1st place – Karis Littlepage

From James Madison

  • 3rd place - Courtner Rager

  • 2nd place – Kristen Moore

  • 1st place – Staley Clark

From South Hopkins Middle

  • 3rd place – Olivia Latham

  • 2nd place – Nova Gilkey

  • 1st place - Sarah Todd

County 1st and 2nd place winners were selected from the 1st place essay entries from each school. The Hopkins county overall 1st place winner was Staley Clark from James Madison Middle and the Hopkins County second place essay winner was Sarah Todd from South Hopkins Middle.

In order to recognize students in the primary grades in each school, the Hopkins County Conservation District initiated a Primary Art Contest.

This contest is an extension of the Jim Claypool Art Contest. The District awarded a monetary prize and certificate to a primary winner in each school that participated.

  • From Grapevine - Piper Salmons

  • From Hanson - Reme Witman

  • From Jesse Stuart - Mariah Moore

  • From Pride - Maddie Duncan

  • From Southside - Easton Crowe

  • From West Broadway - Emma Grace Austin

A County first and second place winner is selected from the primary winners from each school.

The first place winner was Reme Witman from Hanson and the second place winner was Damian Pollard from Christ the King.

There were 2,288 Jim Claypool Art Contest entries created by the county students this year.

There were three winners chosen from each school who participated. Each student received a certificate and monetary gift.

From Earlington

  • 3rd place – Alysha Franco

  • 2nd place – Carlie Rodgers

From Grapevine

  • 3rd place – Abby Harris

  • 2nd place – Sarah Linville

  • 1st place - Sarah Keown

From Hanson

  • 3rd place – Kael Knight

  • 2nd place - MacKenzie Campbell

  • 1st place - Gabriel Bethel

From Jesse Stuart

  • 3rd place – Lauren Miskimen

  • 2nd place – Mikayla Baize

  • 1st place - A. J. Stokes

From Pride

  • 3rd place - Imani Gray

  • 2nd place - Abby Miller

  • 1st place – Rebekah Calhoun

From Southside

  • 3rd place – Ashlyn Slate

  • 2nd place – Hailey Stokes

  • 1st place - Natalie Richey

From West Broadway

  • 3rd place – Lillian Maturo

  • 2nd place – M. J. Rogers

  • 1st place - Kendall Duncan

From West Hopkins

  • 3rd place - Kaleb Clevenger

  • 2nd place – Jadon Towe

  • 1st place – Sarah Blanchard

A county runner up and a county winner were chosen from all the 1st place entries from each school. The first place winner was Rebekah Calhoun from Pride Elementary. The 2nd place county winner was Gabe Bethel from Hanson Elementary.

At the end of the banquet the Hopkins County Conservation District present Jailer Joe Blue with a $10,000 grant to install a greenhouse on the jail property to help with raising vegetables and plants to be used at the Hopkins County Jail.
