Kentucky State Police Post 2 Activity Report – July 3, 2013

Highway Deaths 01 300FRANKFORT, KY (7/3/13) – For the month of June 2013, Post 2 reports the following activity:
 *Arrested 59 Impaired Drivers

 *Issued a Total of 1,894 Citations

 *Issued 557 Speeding Citations

 *Issued 279 Seatbelt Citations

 *Issued 33 Child Restraint Citations

 *Issued 683 Courtesy Notices

 *Investigated 69 Traffic Crashes

 *Assisted 200 Stranded Motorists

 *Responded to 949 Calls for Service

 *Opened 39 Criminal Cases

 *Made 293 Criminal Arrests

****There were two fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of two lives reported in the Post 2

District in June 2013. Single-fatality crashes occurred in Muhlenberg and Webster Counties. Neither victim was wearing a seatbelt.

Through June 30, 2013, there have been 14 fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of 16 lives reported in the Post 2 District: 8 victims were not wearing seatbelts, 3 victims were wearing seatbelts, and the seatbelt status of 5 victims is not known. Two fatality crashes involved the suspected use of alcohol.

Through June 30, 2012, 14 people had been killed in 14 crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers may remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel, and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. The KSP utilizes traffic safety checkpoints to promote safety for motorists and to provide a deterrent for those who violate laws contained in the Kentucky Revised Statutes.
 
The intent of a traffic safety checkpoint is to provide a highly visible, public safety service focusing on vehicular equipment deficiencies, confirming appropriate registration and insurance of vehicles, and the valid licensing of drivers. Violations of law or other public safety issues that arise shall be addressed.

Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
