hanson festival fall 300HANSON, Ky. (9/18/13) – The Hanson Lions Club and the various Hanson Merchants have teamed up to bring you one action packed weekend, this Friday and Saturday. On Friday, not only will the shops be open with lots of specials, but there will be crafters and flea market vendors on hand to sell their wares as well. At 5:00 P.M. while the BBQ teams are setting up and starting to cook, Kim Harper will be leading Karaoke in the Gazebo during the cornhole tournament which will take place in the City Parking Lot. It's just $20.00 per team and the winners will take home half the entry money.

On Saturday at 6:00 a.m. Sunset Drive will be closed to car traffic. The BBQ competitors will enjoy a breakfast hosted by the Lions Club, and then the real competition begins for the top spot for Ribs, Chicken, Pulled Pork, Community Choice, and of course, the Grand Champion. There is $850.00 in prize money for the event. BBQ food sales will begin at noon and the judging will be announced at 4:30. The Lions will be selling hot dogs, Dr. Pepper and chips and the Hanson UMC Youth group will be selling ice cream.

Also in store for this year is a Glitz Pageant, sponsored by All Occasions Dress Shop to crown a BBQ Festival King and Queen. All ages are invited to participate. Please call Sonja at 875-3399 for more details.

From 2-7 p.m. there will be the annual Cruise-In. This year it will be located at the Hanson Baptist Church. There is no charge, just come down and visit.

Throughout the day Rowdy Rescue will have pet adoption stations set up. There will also be pony rides, The Book Mobile, live music with the Carroll Payton Band, and the Hanson Volunteer Fire Department will have Sparky the Dog, and the Safe House open to give fire safety demonstrations to the children. The state-of-the-art house even mimics the feel of earthquakes, and storms.

Calvary Temple Church will hold its’ Family Fun Day with games, cake walks, a gospel singing at 5:00 and more.

There is still space available for the crafter and flea market area. Booths are just $25.00 for the weekend and will be located across from Calvary Temple on HWY 41. Please call Teresa at 828-230-6501 to reserve your space.

Hanson is Kentuckys’ Smallest Historic District and the Hanson Lions Club is one of the smallest in the state. The local club gives regularly to Hanson School, The Veterans Home, Back Pack Blessings, the HVFD, The Food Bank, and locals in need.
