Tennessee Woman Arrested for Prostitution in Lyon County

prostitution 300LYON COUNTY, Ky. (7/16/13) – On Monday, July 15, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Tennessee woman on prostitution related charges.

According to Sheriff’s Office officials, Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for a Tennessee woman following a prostitution investigation Monday afternoon in McCracken County. She was later found and arrested in Metropolis IL.

The investigation began after Detectives located an ad on a popular internet website that is often times used for prostitution. The ad, which had provocative photos of a female, alleged that the female was in the Paducah/Metropolis area working for donations.

As part of an independent investigation, Detectives, acting in the undercover capacity, contacted the female via cell phone from a number posted on the website. During the conversation the female agreed to perform sexual acts for an agreed price with the undercover sheriff’s detective. Detectives arranged to meet the female at an area hotel on Hinkleville Road in Paducah. At approximately 1:20 pm, through surveillance, Detectives observed a black Nissan Altima occupied by a man and woman with Tennessee plates. The individuals in the vehicle began circling the agreed hotel, in what appeared to be efforts of counter surveillance. The female in the vehicle matched the description of the woman pictured in the internet ad. Detectives received a phone call back from the female who stated she was leaving the area, stating that she had seen Law Enforcement nearby.

Detectives, who were assisted by the Metropolis Police Department, located the vehicle arriving back at a Metropolis Hotel located at 100 East Front Street in Metropolis IL a short time later (Around 1:40 PM). The vehicle was found to be occupied by Robert Hamel and Tanisha Stevens. Detectives located the phone used by Stevens in the vehicle that was used to facilitate acts of prostitution. Detectives searched the vehicle and seized condoms, four additional cell phones and more than $1900 in US currency believed to be proceeds of prostitution.

Officers with the Metropolis Police Department arrested Hamel for driving on a suspended driver’s license. Stevens was also arrested by the Metropolis Police Department for a McCracken County arrest warrant for prostitution, stemming from the events that occurred earlier in McCracken County.

Both individuals were lodged in the Massac County IL Jail.

The investigation is continuing and additional charges are likely forthcoming.
