Paducah-Mayfield Mayors Proclaim September 7 as Pink Glove Day

PINK gLOVE GROUP

PADUCAH, Ky. (9/3/13) –This Saturday, the date of the 100th anniversary of one of the state’s oldest football rivalries, will be “Mayfield-Tilghman Pink Glove Day” in Mayfield and Paducah.

Mayfield Mayor Teresa Cantrell and Paducah Mayor Gayle Kaler issued a joint proclamation on Tuesday at Baptist Health Paducah, surrounded by coaches and high school officials from their cities.

Baptist Health Paducah is sponsoring the Sept. 7 game at Paducah Tilghman High School to raise breast cancer awareness through its Pink Glove Dance.

The proclamation celebrates the storied football tradition between the two cities and supports the breast cancer awareness project for the health of their citizens.

“While the football rivalry generates healthy competition and camaraderie between these two schools and two cities,” said Dona Rains, Baptist Health marketing and planning director, “we are honored that they will devote part of this historic evening to a far more serious cause – breast cancer awareness.”

The hospital invites the community, especially breast cancer survivors, to don pink gloves for the pre-game video filming at McRight Field. The video, which reminds women to get annual mammograms for early detection of breast cancer, will be released at PinkGloveDance.com during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Baptist Health Paducah will ask the public to vote for its video in October because the top three vote-getters in the national video contest will receive prizes up to $25,000 for the breast cancer charity of their choice.

In addition, to enter the contest, each video must raise at least $2,000 for a separate charity. Baptist Health will sell pink “Your Fight is Our Fight” T-shirts at the game to benefit its new Your Fight Cancer Fund, which provides assistance to local cancer patients. To order a T-shirt in advance, phone 270-575-2895.
