road closed green 300MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (5/7/13) – CSX Railroad and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plan to close a section of U.S. 431 in Muhlenberg County for 3 days sometime in late May or early June for rail crossing repairs.
Plans call for U.S. 431 to be closed at mile point 15.674 in the Cleaton Community for a rail crossing upgrade and rail line maintenance. At this time there is no specific date for the work to start, but the schedule is likely to firm up in the next few weeks.
This is a coal haul route with substantial truck traffic. While passenger vehicle traffic can take a 4-mile detour along KY 2107, commercial trucks will be required to take a much longer detour.
Due to the potential for disruption of material deliveries to area industries, CSX and KYTC engineers are providing a heads-up to allow businesses to prepare for this closure in advance. The specific start date for this project will be shared as soon as it becomes available. U.S. 431 would not be closed over the Memorial Day Holiday, but it will likely fall the week before or after the holiday driving period.

About 7,000 vehicles travel this section of U.S. 431 in an average day.
Shippers who normally have cargo traveling U.S. 431 may contact KYTC officials by going to or sending an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . You do not have to be a Facebook member to access this page.
