lear 300GREENVILLE, Ky. (5/23/13) – Madisonville Community College (MCC) is proud to announce that Elyssa Lear of Greenville was selected as the 2013 Outstanding Faculty Member.
 
The award was presented by Dr. Deborah Cox, Chief Academic Officer, during the college’s May10th graduation ceremony. Students select the recipient of this award by majority vote. An Associate Professor of Mathematics, Lear is well known among faculty, staff, and students for her compassion for students and a strong desire to help them achieve their goals. She has fostered a sense of self-confidence in their academic achievement in a field that can be intimidating to many students. She sets high expectations for learning, but never fails to provide the time and individualized attention necessary for students to achieve at that level. Caring, genuine, sincere, awesome and fun are just a few of the words students use to describe Lear.
 
Lear has been employed at MCC since 2002 and teaches at the MCC Muhlenberg Campus. In addition to classroom responsibilities, Lear can be found organizing campus initiatives and community events such as campus recycling efforts, student organization fairs, volunteer tutoring in the Learning Center, math and spelling contests for elementary students, American Red Cross blood drive, and the annual community support weekend.
