(3/20/14) – The Sixth Annual Saturdays on the Square summer concert series returns to downtown Greenville beginning June 28.

Saturdays on the Square has been named a Top 10 Kentucky Summer Festival numerous times, and this year the series is again in the running for this Kentucky Travel Industry Association honor.

The breathtaking Muhlenberg County Courthouse plays backdrop to eight free outdoor music events that begin June 28 and wrap up August 16. Bring your lawn chair and prepare to be entertained.

The series kicks off with local and regional talents that celebrate multiple genres, one of which has birthrights in Muhlenberg County.

This first night the fun will get started early at 7:30 p.m. with a special tribute to the art of thumb picking featuring Paul Moseley, Steve Rector and Joe Hudson.

At 8 p.m. variety show featuring local and regional artists will take the stage with groups and performers such as Melissa Bivins, The Boys of Broad, Roy Kyle, Corey Farlow and District Court Judge Brian Wiggins.

To celebrate the Fourth of July weekend, the Saturdays on the Square July 5 event features The Landsharks, a tribute to the music of the Beach Boys. The Landsharks have appeared with Jimmy Buffett, and have opened for The Beach Boys.

July 12 will feature the popular antique car exhibition on Main Street in downtown as the summer’s premier car show event. This year the Twilight Cruise In will be partnered with the musical performance of Motown Sounds of Touch. This group from Dayton, Ohio has been delighting audiences all over the country for over a decade. Their energetic dance performances and engaging personalities have brought many audiences to their feet. They have shared center stage with Al Green, The Isley Brothers, and the legendary Ray Charles.

July 19 will surely be a highlight in the season as country a cappella band Home Free takes the stage. Home Free was crowned Season 4 Champions of NBC's The Sing-Off. Home Free entertains audiences with their high-energy show peppered with quick-witted humor that meshes Nashville standards with pop hits dipped in country flavor.

Following a disappointing rain-out in the 2013 season, this year on July 26 the Greenville Tourism Commission is pleased to bring back Muhlenberg native Laurie Heltsley and Jamison Road. With country roots and a rock-n-roll attitude, this talented trio has moved rapidly from storefront to front-and-center.

Back by popular demand, August 2 will feature A-Town A-List. The Atlanta-based band is a collection of incredible, young performers who have toured the world, sharing the stage with Bruce Springsteen, The Dave Matthews Band, Stevie Wonder and The Black Eyed Peas.

August 9 is a night for Gospel music lovers when The Akins appear on the Saturday on the Square stage. The Akins are three brothers and a dad, whose faith and family values shape everything they do. Their musical talent, tight family harmonies and live instruments create a unique sound that is enjoyed by all ages. They have had multiple chart-topping songs including their recent #1 song, "I Want My Stage To Be An Altar."

August 16 will finish the season with a spectacular show, Who’s Bad, The Ultimate Michael Jackson Experience. Who’s Bad’s live performance is an unrivaled celebration of pop music’s one true King. Their power-packed performance of Michael Jackson’s expansive catalog has ignited crowds on every continent and can only be described as a jaw-dropping, musical must-see.
