Drug Sting Results in Seizure of Large Cache of Money

thompson ward brico and manny copyMUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (3/28/14) ― A joint investigation by the Muhlenberg and Ohio counties sheriffs' departments along with the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force has resulted in the seizure of $15,000 from drug-related activity.

According to a Muhlenberg County Sheriff's report, officers have been investigating a suspected drug ring over the past several weeks involving Ohio and Muhlenberg residents.

The sheriffs' departments and PNTF recently arrested Joseph Lee seizing approximately $8,000 in cash along with 28 grams of crystal meth in Cromwell.

On Thursday, March 27, Muhlenberg Sheriff's Det. Wade Griggs conducted a traffic stop in Greenville. Ohio County Sheriff David Thompson deployed the department's K-9 Unit, Brico, around a vehicle driven by Jennifer Abernathy of Forest Park, Chicago. Brico indicated that the order of illegal contraband was inside the vehicle. A search resulted in seized cash. Both Brico and Muhlenberg K-9 Unit Manny indicated that the money was contaminated.

Police believe that Abernathy is closely related to Joseph Lee.

PNTF Det. Troy Gibson said the investigation is deep reaching and is continuing.

Thompson and Muhlenberg Sheriff Curtis McGehee believe the cooperation among agencies has been a contributing factor in the success of the investigation.

KSP Trooper Jon McGehee also assisted in the traffic stop.
