music man 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (7/8/13) – Back Alley Musicals will present The Music Man, at River Park Center on July 20 and 21 and July 27 and 28.

The classic musical about a con man who poses as a band director for boys, will star Thad Mayhugh as Harold Hill and Emily Cox as Marian Paroo.

There will be a cast of 60 adults and children from the Owensboro, Henderson, and Evansville, Ind., areas making it a regional event.

The cast will have both professional and non-professional singers and actors.

The female lead, Emily Cox, a native of Southern Indiana, graduated recently from Northern Colorado University with a degree in opera and vocal performance. Many of the actors, though, are local non-professionals.

The show will be rated-G for a family feel.

“Owensboro is a very family-friendly town,” Director Bradley Gray said. “It is also a very musical town. This will combine the best of both.”

A 20-piece live symphony orchestra, mostly from the Owensboro Symphony will be conducted by local Greg Olsen.

“There’s nothing quite like a live orchestra accompanying a live cast,” Gray said. “It’s going to be a good time for everyone.”

The performance dates are set for Sat., July 20 at 7:30 p.m., Sun., July 21 at 2 p.m, Sat., July 27 at 7:30 p.m., and Sun., July 28 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are available now through the River Park Center box office at (270)-687-2787. Advanced adult tickets are $20.50 or $22.50 at the door; Students $12.50; Children under 5 are free to get in.
