Hawesville Residents Weigh In on Bridge Reconstruction

ky trans cab 300HAWESVILLE, Ky. (9/18/13) – Last night (Tuesday) about 25 citizens attended a public meeting to discuss plans for reconstruction of KY 69 at the Hawesville end of the Bob Cummings-Lincoln Trail Bridge.

The project is aimed at providing a more direct route for KY 69 from US 60 to the Ohio River Bridge that connects Kentucky and Indiana. Currently traffic heading to the Hawesville-Cannelton Bridge from US 60 have to wind through Hawesville's downtown area past the Hancock County Court House and make several turns.
 
The new route will provide trucks and other through-traffic a direct path to the bridge.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Project Development Engineer John Rudd says the plan could be ready for purchasing of right of way along the new route sometime next year, followed by about 9 months of work to move utilities to accommodate the construction zone.

Total cost of the new bridge connector is estimated at around $10 million. Rudd expects the project to be ready for construction sometime in 2015. However, the state highway plan doesn’t currently include allocations for the construction phase.
