Owensboro Jewelry Store Keeps It 'All in the Family'

OWENSBORO, Ky. (10/29/13) - You might say that Tommy Rhinerson was born to be a jeweler.

The third-generation jewelry store owner began working in his grandfather’s store, Tucker Jewelers, when he was just eight years old. After his grandfather passed in 2006, he opened up his own place, Lodan Jewelry Design Studio. Rhinerson said it all began “on a wing and a prayer”.

He and his wife kept it in the family, getting the name from combining their two sons’ names, Jordan and Logan. In 2011, the Rhinerson family bought their current location at Park Place and they have focused on giving Owensboro “something different” ever since.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony for his business Tuesday for the Chamber of Commerce, Rhinerson said that Owensboro residents think that they have to travel great distances to find unique jewelry. Lodan Jewelry’s goal is to change people’s minds, he said.

“This isn’t for us, it’s for the community . . . it’s for Owensboro,” Rhinerson said.

The store sells and repairs custom-made jewelry creations, as well as buying gold, while offering a distinct market, he said.

“We’re trying to focus on things that are different,” Rhinerson said.
