Pedley’s Predictions: Playoffs Week 2

basic football5 300OWENSBORO, Ky, (11/15/13) – Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic advanced to the second round of the state tournament with victories last week. Both the Red Devils and the Aces had relatively easy wins: Owensboro beating Breckinridge County 48 – 6, while the Aces thumped Crittenden County 50 – 7.
 
Warren East Raiders 7-4 @ Owensboro Red Devils 8-3
 
Warren East shutout Calloway County last week and won the game 21 – 0. Warren will have to play just as well, if the Raiders are going to beat Owensboro for a second straight year. Last year, the Raiders defense played great and were able contain Owensboro’s speed.
 
Head Football Coach Joe Prince for Owensboro has pushed his team to be most physical team on the field all year. If Owensboro is going to advance this week, the Red Devils must use their speed to match the Raiders size advantage.
 
With the great tradition Owensboro High School has in football, there are not many teams that can say they have beaten the Red Devils in consecutive years. I believe Coach Prince has the Red Devils ready this year and I do not expect see a repeat of last year. Expect to see Owensboro playing at home again next week.
 
Prediction: Owensboro jumps out early and holds off Warren East late winning the game 24 – 20.
 
Murray Tigers 7-4 @ Owensboro Catholic Aces 9-2
 
This is the game Owensboro Catholic Head Football Coach John Edge has been waiting for. The last couple of years Coach Edge watched his Aces fall short of their dream thanks to the Tigers, including last year whenever Murray beat the Aces in double overtime.
 
“We cannot let them sustain drives,” Coach Edge told SurfKY News.
 
Catholic will have their hands full on defense trying to stop Murray’s wishbone style offense. The best defense against the Aces high flying offense, is keeping that offense on the sidelines. The Tigers will try to control the line of scrimmage, so Catholic’s defense will have to be aggressive and stop the run. Expect Catholic to try and run up the score.
 
Prediction: The Aces will finally get revenge and will beat Murray 35 – 20.
