Keeneland Traffic Plan Reminder

keeneland traffic 300LEXINGTON, Ky. (4/5/13) – The Lexington Division of Police is continuing to remind citizens to be mindful of traffic pattern changes, related to the Keeneland Spring Meet.

Those that will be travelling to Keeneland should be aware that a large construction project on Versailles Road has, and will continue to, significantly affect the flow of traffic on that roadway. In efforts to ensure traffic flows more easily, going both to and from Keeneland, Division of Police officers have created a multi-faceted traffic plan and offer the following advice.

Those travelling to Keeneland during the Spring Meet should be prepared for traffic delays. Leave early, be patient and follow all rules of the road—especially in construction zones.

In an effort to avoid backups and bottlenecks, the Division of Police is also recommending alternate routes of entrance and exit to the Keeneland property. There will be electronic message boards on New Circle Road at both the inner and outer-loop to provide alternate route directions.

The first message board will be on the inner-loop of New Circle, prior to Versailles Road. This board will advise drivers to exit onto Old Frankfort Pike (Exit 6) and follow the officers’ directions, and the posted signs to Gate 3 (Rice Road), which will allow access via the back gate. Patrons entering the back gate will be allowed access to all parking areas in the event.

The second message board will be placed on the outer-loop of New Circle road, prior to old Frankfort. It will advise drivers to use Old Frankfort as an entrance to Keeneland.

In addition to the message boards, officers will also be manually directing drivers to use alternate entrances and exits following the completion of each day’s events at Keeneland. After the event, traffic will be directed from the Free Parking Areas out of Gate 3 onto Rice Rd, then to Old Frankfort. Traffic exiting from the Van Meter Rd Exit will be sent out Van Meter onto Old Frankfort, to avoid heavy traffic on Versailles Rd. Traffic will be allowed to go either toward Versailles or New Circle Rd once on Old Frankfort.
