LEXINGTON, Ky. (5/1/13) – Do you enjoy craft beer? Food trucks? Supporting local businesses? Then don’t miss Lexington’s first annual Craft Beer Week May 13 - May 19.
Lexington Craft Beer Week celebrates the burgeoning craft beer scene in Lexington with special events, food, and, of course, plenty of beer at local breweries and beer bars throughout the city.
The official host of Lexington Craft Beer Week is www.lexbeerscene.com, a website that boasts the most comprehensive and up-to-date calendar of craft beer events in the Lexington area. Matthew Arrington and Chris Vandergrift, both engineers by trade, collectively operate www.lexbeerscene.com. The two founded the website out of frustration from having to visit multiple websites to find local beer happenings and food truck locations.
Vandergrift, who also coordinates Fest of Ales in the fall, predicts Lexington Craft Beer Week will be the premier event for craft beer in the future. He states, “I think Lexington Craft Beer Week will be a way to celebrate what Lexington’s beer community has to offer to the city and the growing nationwide craft beer movement.”
Featured events include the annual Kentucky Ale Pro-Am Brew-Off; breakfast and coffee beers served all day at Country Boy Brewing; a cooking with local beer lesson with the Fork in the Road; West Sixth’s Think Local, Drink Local; and a beer and food pairing hosted by Liquor Barn. Other participating locations are Lexington Beerworks, Arcadium Bar, the Beer Trappe, Pazzo’s Pub, and many more.
In congruence with the collaborative nature of the Lexington craft beer community, the official beverage of the week is Country Western, a creation of Country Boy Brewing and West Sixth. Country Western is a hoppy pale ale with Noble hops from Germany. It will be released May 13 and will only be available during Lexington Craft Beer Week.
Whether a beer connoisseur, foodie, or a person curious to try something new, Lexington Craft Beer Week will have something for everyone. Vandergrift adds, “Craft Beer Week will be a great opportunity to introduce people who want to support the local beer scene but don’t know where to begin. The week is about having a great time and trying something new.”
Lexington Craft Beer Week is sponsored by West Sixth Brewing, www.tadoo.com, Kentucky Ale, and Drake’s.
