LEXINGTON, Ky. (3/27/13) – Five students in Fayette County Public Schools will compete in the National Geographic Bee’s statewide contest April 5.
Kevin Hutcheson of Beaumont Middle, Walter Kissick of Lexington Traditional Magnet School, Gloria Pulley of Edythe J. Hayes Middle, Laura Radulescu of SCAPA at Bluegrass and Zachary Ross of Winburn Middle School are among the top 100 students in Kentucky based on qualifying tests given at their schools.
State winners will be invited to National Geographic headquarters May 20-22 to compete in the national finals for $25,000, $15,000 and $10,000 scholarships.
The National Geographic Bee encourages teachers to spark student interest and increase public awareness about geography. Students in grades 4-8 are eligible for the contest.
