Consumer Chronicle: Burn Calories, Not Cash With Weight Loss Apps

weight management 300LEXINGTON, Ky. (9/2/2013) – Looking to become a healthier, fitter you? You're not alone. But, rather than spending dollar after dollar on different weight-loss programs, there's another way to get fitness advice at your fingertips for free. Weight loss apps on your phone give you access to some of the best programs, whether you're looking to lose a few pounds, or a total weight-loss overhaul.

Check out some of these apps, and see which is best for your goal of a healthier lifestyle.

Lose it! Weight-Loss Program and Calorie Counter – This app allows you to set a daily calorie budget, track your food and exercise, and stay motivated to make smarter choices and achieve your goal. You tell the app your weight-loss goal, and it creates a custom weight-loss plan for you. All you have to do begin logging your exercise and food with the comprehensive food and exercise database. Still need some extra motivation? Use the app to compete with your friends in head-to-head, team, and group based challenges. Other goals you can log include body fat, hydration, sleep, and nutrients.
C25K, 5K Trainer Free – Have you ever dreamt of running a marathon, but have too much trouble getting off the couch to train? C25K, or Couch-to-5K, is your one-stop trainer to get you in tip-top shape and ready to run a 5K. The app provides an eight week program, with workouts 30 minutes a day, three days a week. You'll alternate between jogging and walking intervals, all while listening to some of your favorite tunes on your device. This simple, yet effective app is compatible with Pandora, GPS apps, and Nike +.
Weight Loss by Modiface – Want a vision of yourself after you've lost some undesired pounds? Weight Loss by Modiface is for you. The app has the ability to simulate weight-loss on your own photo. Also available on the app is a personalized BMI calculator and chart, daily calorie intake recommendation, and meal/diet plans.
Nexercise – Featured on CBS “The Doctors” as the best fitness tracker for weight-loss, this app bases exercise on a point system. You'll receive points for activities you may not even consider exercise, such as housework, playing with the kids, or playing with the pets. The more points you receive, the higher your level becomes. Also, points and activity can earn you real rewards such as coupons for food. Achieve your goals, while winning medals, rewards, and increasing your level of fitness all on the Nexercise app.
Easy Weight Loss Tips – Just looking for a little extra motivation to get out of the house and exercise? This app doesn't have a way to track your calories, or lay out an in-depth weight-loss plan. However, the Easy Weight Loss Tips app will give you easy tips that can help reduce body fat and keep you healthy. You can save your favorite tips, or share them via Facebook, Twitter, text message and e-mail.
