“Florida is very smart in the way that they attack you,” said UK football head coach Mark Stoops. “I think that when you look at this week it’s going to be a real challenge, because they are overwhelming at times. They can get in your face and not give you anything easily.”
Last weekend Florida lost their quarterback, Jeff Driskel, for the season after he broke his lower right leg during their game against Tennessee. Coach Stoops wants to keep focusing on how the Wildcats are performing and not worry about the other team’s performance.
“I wouldn’t think that it would give us any extra motivation, “ he said. “We already should be motivated to play a very good football team.”
Looking at the lineup of teams that UK will be playing in the next couple of weeks, Stoops says that although it is motivation, it isn’t something that they are talking about or focusing on right now.
“We haven’t talked about our opponent stretch other than what our plan was during the off week to prepare,” he said. “We didn’t talk about the specific opponents because we can’t worry about that. What we are worried about right now is Florida and we are working to get better every day.”
As UK is getting better and improving their offensive and defensive plays every week, so is the rest of the league.
“Always an issue is finding a balance on what we want to do and what we can do successfully,” said Stoops. “Our awareness is getting better, which led us to play more aggressively last game.”
The Wildcats will be facing off against the Gators Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
