LEXINGTON, Ky. (11/27/13) — This week, Lexingtonians have seen a change of weather with cooler temperatures and even a few snow flurries. While there is a chance of snow accumulation in and around the area tonight, the streets and roads crew are more than ready.
“The full night shift is reporting at 8 p.m. tonight for a 24-hour, round-the-clock coverage,” Rob Allen, manager of streets and roads said. “We have over 5,000 tons of rock salt on hand, and will use it as needed.”
Yesterday, crews pre-treated roads with a brine solution to keep snow and ice from sticking to the asphalt.
“We aren’t expecting a lot of snow tonight, but it is better to be ready than not,” said Allen. “If we run out of salt this winter, we have a contract to get more from our supplier right here in town. We also have 46 trucks that we can put out on the roads to do the job.”
