Two Employees Lauded for Children’s Advocacy Work

Fayette Public Schools 03 300LEXINGTON, Ky. (4/15/14) — Did you know April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month?

Tammie Franks, principal of Harrison Elementary, and Chris Townsend, director of Law Enforcement for Fayette County Public Schools, received awards April 11 for working tirelessly on behalf of children every day.

The recognition came from Stand Up for Youth, which hosted the breakfast event at the Plantory to thank several individuals in Lexington.

Stand Up For Youth is a group of professionals striving to bring attention to the issue of child abuse and neglect. In addition to FCPS, the members represent Sunflower Kids, CHES Solutions, Key Assets, CASA, Kids First, the Plantory, WellCare and Positively Java.

With nearly 3,000 reports of child abuse and neglect meeting criteria for investigation in Fayette County in 2013, this community is clearly impacted.

Margaret Meade once said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

In Lexington, members of SUFY are doing just that by working to protect children and strengthen families.
