Spring Allergies May Come From Everyday Things

woman sneezingMADISONVILLE, Ky. (4/9/14) - Spring has sprung, and for many, so has allergy season.

Approximately 20 percent of people suffer from hay fever, with symptoms including stuffy nose, sneezing, and runny eyes.

Most know that trees, grass, and weeds are the cause of most of these annoying things, but according to a report by med.news.am allergies can be caused by or worsen from many everyday things.

Fruits have what is called fruit pollen, and can send your immune system into a frenzy. By peeling or cooking fruit, you can avoid the reaction.

Alcohol dilates the nose’s blood vessels and can cause allergies to worsen. People with hay fever, asthma, or other allergies are far more likely to sneeze, or experience a runny nose when consuming alcohol.

Hair products are a pollen magnet, according to Dr. Clifford Bassett, medical director of Allergy and Asthma Care of New York. Use as few hair products as you can, and make sure to wash your hair every day to remove the allergens from your locks.

Ceiling fans can sometimes be worse for your allergies than outdoor air, and running your fan swirls all of those allergens around.Make sure to clean your fan regularly, so you are not exposed.

Scruffy can make your allergens bark, too.

Just because you aren’t allergic to your pet, doesn’t mean its fur can’t bring in pollen and mold. Give your pup and outdoor cats regular baths to prevent this from happening.

Remember, stress can also trigger allergies as well, so take care of yourself! Get regular exercise, take baths and wash your hair every day, and take antihistamines (as provided by your doctor) if needed to prevent allergy annoyances.
