Whitfield Issues State Regarding TVA

whitfield ed official 300WASHINGTON, D.C. (11/19/13) – U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, today released the following statement in response to the Tennessee Valley Authority Board voting to close down units one and two of the Paradise Fossil Plant and to replace them with natural gas turbines.

“The Paradise Fossil Plant is the latest casualty in President Obama’s assault on coal and affordable energy. This is completely unacceptable, and unfortunately, the President is making true on a campaign promise that if he was elected, he would bankrupt the coal industry.

“As the Chairman of the House Energy and Power Subcommittee, I will continue fighting back against the overzealous regulations of the President and his Environmental Protection Agency. It is also important for the Senate to act.

“I will work with Senators McConnell and Paul to do all we can stop President Obama and his EPA at every turn because America's energy future and economic prosperity are too important not to act. I will also continue supporting bipartisan solutions like the proposed bill that I drafted with Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia that would stop the President’s attempts to unilaterally bankrupt the coal industry.

“This is an important issue that affects Kentucky’s livelihood. It is worthy of a public debate, and I will continue fighting for that debate on behalf of Kentuckians.”
