What’s Up in Owensboro!

Owensboro Event 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (12/9/13) - Here are some of the many events going on in Owensboro for the week of Dec. 9 through Dec. 15:

President Kennedy Exhibit
The Owensboro Museum of Science and History is featuring a mini-exhibit to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Artifacts include a telegram from Illinois Central Railroad, which ordered all trains to stop for six minutes in honor of Kennedy; and also newspaper front pages. There will also be cards sent to Owensboro residents, Alice Harris and K.L. Mercer, sent by the First Lady who signed cards to the thousands who sent her sympathy cards. The exhibit will be up through Dec. 15 in the foyer of the Wendell H. Ford Government Education Center on the second floor. Museum hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.; 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

37th Annual Holiday in the Park
The event at Legion Park is still going on all day until Jan. 2 with giant elves, trees, toys and figures, and Santa! For more information, call (270)-687-8700.

Christmas at Panther Creek
Panther Creek’s outdoor driving lighted tour with 400,000+ lights winding down the park will continue until Jan. 8. There is a $3 charge per carload and it is open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. each night.

OCTC Holiday Concert
The Owensboro Community and Technical College Chorus will present a holiday concert 7:30 pm. Dec. 9 at St. Stephen Cathedral on Locust St. For more information, contact Tracy McQueen at 270-686-4443.

Christmas Open House
The Owensboro Museum of Science and History invites you to browse through their gift shop for Christmas ideas at their Christmas Open House 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 pm. Dec. 10. Door prizes and refreshments will be offered. For more information, go to: www.owensboromuseum.org.

Starlab Show Featuring “The Polar Express”
The Owensboro Museum of Science and History will host “The Polar Express” shows, hot cocoa, and cookies 5:30 p.m., 6 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 7 p.m. Dec. 10.

Leo Cockroach, Toy Tester
The Owensboro Museum of Science and History’s Storylab will feature Leo Cockroach, Toy Tester, by Kevin O’Malley 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 12. Participants will use a variety of supplied materials to create their own invention. The activity will be for pre-school through elementary age groups. Soup Day for Kids
Celebrity chefs will prepare homemade soups and sweets to benefit the Goodfellows Club of Owensboro 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Western Kentucky Botanical Garden. A gift of $5 is requested. For more information, go to: www.wkbg.org.

“A Christmas Carol”
The Theatre Workshop of Owensboro is staging “A Christmas Carol” 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 13 and 9:30 p.m. Dec. 14 and 2 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Opryhouse on Frederica St. For more information, go to: www.theatreworkshop.org.

Holiday Hustle 5K Run/Walk
Sponsored by the Owensboro Parks and Recreation Department will host the run/walk all day Dec. 14 at the Adkisson Greenbelt Trail beginning at the Dairy Queen on New Hartford Rd. and continuing on the Horse Fork Creek Trail.

The Christmas Tour of Homes
The Owensboro Symphony Alliance will host a Christmas tour 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 14 at the Health Park. The homes will be decorated for Christmas and full of music provided by talented Owensboro musicians. Refreshments will be provided. Tickets are available at the Symphony Academy for $20. Holiday Stroll
Downtown Owensboro will host a Holiday Stroll 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 14 to get into the holiday spirit. Strolling carolers, storefront decorations, and indoor performers on Daviess St. to St. Ann St. will make the evening a reminder of the good ole days.

Lanham Brothers Jamboree Christmas Show
The show hosted by Diamond Lake Resort will be held 7 p.m. to 9 pm. Dec. 14 as a fundraiser for local non-profit Help Someone. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6 to 12, and 5 years and under are free. For more information, go to: www.lanhambrothersjamboree.com.

Owensboro Ballroom Dance Club
The club will be celebrating the holidays with the “Christmas Ball” 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Cliff Hagan Boys and Girls Club. Tickets are $10 per person. For more information, contact: (270) 314-3731.

Owensboro Symphony Orchestra Holiday Pops
