CALLOWAY COUNTY, Ky. (4/10/13) – The Calloway County High School Speech Team competed on the University of Kentucky’s campus on the weekend of March 16, 2013. Twenty Two students qualified for the event with sixteen advancing to the quarter final round, placing them among the top 25 in the state.Additionally, six of that group moved on to Semi-final round, placing them in the top 15 in state. Junior Courtney Martin claimed 6th in Declamation. Senior Jessica Foster placed 6th in poetry and senior Nick Betts took top honors for the Lakers with 5th in Extemporaneous speaking. Overall, the team placed an impressive 7th in the state competition.
The 2013 season continues with three students (Nick Betts, Kailey Ray, and Stephanie McClain) qualifying for the National Catholic Forensic League Grand National Tournament in Philadelphia, PA over Memorial Day weekend. In June, senior Nick Betts will also compete at the National Forensic League National Tournament in the area of student congress. This is the first time in three years a student has qualified for the NFL National Tournament.
