forest Fire 300FRANKFORT, Ky. (9/30/13) – The Fall Forest Fire Hazard Season goes into effect from October 1, 2013 – December 15, 2013. This effect is strictly enforced by the Kentucky Division of Forestry, the Kentucky Division of Air Quality and the Kentucky Division of Waste Management.

The Kentucky Division of Forestry is mandated by law to “provide for organized fire protection.”

Under the KRS 149.400 states that during fire season, it is illegal to burn anytime within 150 feet of any woodland or brush land between the hours of 6:00a.m. – 6:00p.m.

“It is important for people to know that just because you started a fire at 6:00 p.m. and runs over after 6:00a.m., you’re still in violation of the law,” said Jeff Crick of the White Plains Fire Department in Hopkins County, KY. “It is also important to call your central dispatch and let them know that you are going to be burning between those hours. Normally they will advise you on burn restrictions.”

According to the Open Burning Regulation – 401 KAR 63:005, open burning regulations are enforced by the Division of Air Quality. It is also illegal to burn garbage or any materials that are not natural plant matter.

For more information about burning restrictions you can visit the Department of Forestry and Wildfire Management by clicking Here  or call your local dispatch.
