Commission on Human Rights Hosts Two Events

ky commission human rights 300FRANKFORT, Ky. (3/3/14) — The Kentucky Commission on Human Rights Board of Commissioners will hold its regular meeting this week in the capital city of Frankfort to rule on discrimination complaints for the people of Kentucky.

The following day will be the 50-anniversary civil rights march on Frankfort. The public is invited to both events.

The commission meeting will be held at 1 p.m. EST on Tuesday, March 4, at the Kentucky State Capitol Annex, which is located at 702 Capital Ave, in Frankfort, Ky., 40601. The commission will meet in Room 111. The meeting is open to the public.

The commission is meeting in Frankfort this month as part of its recognition of the 50th anniversary recognition of the 1964 civil rights march on Frankfort. On Wednesday, March 5, the Allied Organizations for Civil Rights will lead a commemorative march to the capitol in honor of the anniversary. The commission will participate, and Governor Steven Beshear is expected to speak. Commission Executive Director John J. Johnson will also make remarks. The public is invited to participate, and people are asked to gather at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, at the intersection of Capital Avenue and Second Street, to walk together to the capitol steps for an inspirational speaking rally to honor civil rights and encourage continued progress in areas affecting civil rights.

In the case of inclement weather, the event will be in the Frankfort Convention Center at 405 Mero Street, a few blocks away from the capitol.

For more information about these events, contact the commission at (800) 292-5566.
