Annual Arts Event 'Kentucky Crafted' March 8-9

Arts craft eventKENTUCKY (3/6/14) — Are you a Kentucky artist? Do you appreciate Kentucky art?

Join over 200 artists and the Kentucky Arts Council March 8-9, at Kentucky Crafted: The Market, for its annual, national award-winning event.

Kentucky Crafted: The Market is the arts council's annual marketplace featuring the best of art, craft, food products, literature and music produced in the state for both wholesale buyers and the general public.

Doors open to the general public March 8-9 at the Lexington Convention Center, 430 W. Vine St.

In addition to the marketplace, the event features hands-on activities, exhibits and two full days of live music on the Kentucky Stage.

Join the fun.

Tickets are $10 for one day or $15 for two days purchased at the door.

"From Artist to Arts Business" will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 9, at the Lexington Convention Center, the final day of The Market. The seminar is free with the price of event admission and will be conducted by Ed Lawrence, arts marketing director for the arts council. The seminar is designed for artists interested in learning how to start a business, and who may be interested in joining the Kentucky Crafted program. Participants can register at the event.

"Artists contact our office every year when they hear about The Market asking how they can participate," said Lori Meadows, arts council executive director. "Kentucky Crafted Program artists are the only artists from the Commonwealth eligible to showcase at The Market. We encourage artists who are not in the program to attend this seminar to learn more about growing their business and becoming a part of Kentucky Crafted."

Seminar participants will learn:

  • How to register a business in Kentucky.
  • How to prepare for shows and exhibits.
  • How to price their work.
  • How to apply to the Kentucky Crafted Program.

Kentucky Crafted: The Market is open only to wholesale buyers March 7.

Kentucky Crafted program guidelines are available on the arts council's website.
