Marion Semi Driver Strikes Bridge on I-24

Accident Injury 01 300PADUCAH, Ky. (4/30/13) – On April 29th, 2013 at approximately 11:07 PM, the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a single vehicle accident on Interstate-24 involving a Semi striking a bridge overpass.

Investigation revealed that Lawrence A. McBride III, 51 years of age, of Marion KY, was operating a 2003 Freightliner, eastbound on Interstate-24 near the 16 mile-marker when the hydraulic lift on the dump trailer he was pulling malfunctioned and caused the trailer to raise while the vehicle was in motion. The top of the trailer struck the bridge at the Rosebower Church Road overpass, causing minor damage to the bridge and the trailer.

No Injuries were reported. The contents of the trailer were not spilled.

One lane of eastbound traffic was closed for approximately 5 hours while crews attempted to repair the damaged trailer.

Kentucky Department of Transportation officials inspected the bridge and determined that it had not sustained any structural damage, and was safe for vehicle traffic.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department was assisted on scene by The Reidland Fire Department, McCracken County DES, The Kentucky Department of Transportation, Hartman’s Wrecker Service, and Stinnett’s Wrecker Service.

Interstate-24 and Rosebower Church Road are both now open to normal traffic.
