La Center Man Flees State Police

arrestredcentered 300McCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (5/27/13) – On Saturday, May 25, 2013, Kentucky State Police performed a traffic stop that led to a La Center man fleeing Troopers.

Kentucky State Police Troopers were conducting a traffic safety checkpoint on KY 305 at Coleman Road in McCracken County when Cornelius Hill drove up and provided his operator’s license to a trooper. Hill smelled strongly of alcohol and was asked to step out of his vehicle for standard field sobriety tests. At that time, Hill sped away from the checkpoint.

Troopers pursued the subject with emergency equipment activated but Hill refused to obey troopers’ commands to stop. Hill made several maneuvers to evade police and traveled through a ditch, a gas station parking lot, and then struck an embankment. He fled his vehicle on foot and ignored several loud commands to stop. A trooper then deployed his taser.

Hill was taken into custody and received treatment on the scene by EMS. He was transported to Baptist Health Paducah, at his request, for an evaluation. After treatment, he was then lodged in the McCracken County Jail, charged with Improper Start, Reckless Driving, Wanton Endangerment 1st degree, Fleeing and Evading Police 1st degree motor vehicle, Fleeing and Evading 1st degree on foot, Criminal Mischief 3rd degree, Criminal Mischief 1st degree, Resisting Arrest and DUI 1st offense aggravated.
