randy adams bandHOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (5/3/13) – Randy Adams has been selected as the new band director for Madisonville North Hopkins High School.

He has been associate director of bands and director of the percussion ensemble at MNHHS for the past 17 years. During that time, he also served as band director at Browning Springs Middle School.

“I’m honored and humbled to be chosen as the head director,” Adams said. “I’m looking forward to working with the directors and the staff, students, the Boosters and administration in a team effort to keep the tradition of excellence continuing in the Madisonville North Hopkins High School Band Program.”

Adams earned a bachelor’s degree in music education (instrumental track) and a master’s degree in music education, both from Murray State University.

His teaching accomplishments include distinguished ratings with Browning Springs and MNHHS at the KMEA 2nd District Concert Band Assessment. He has also helped Madisonville North Hopkins achieve eight state marching band championships and four additional trips to the state finals.

Adams is a member of the BSMS Site-Based Council, National Bandmasters Association, Phi Beta Mu International School Bandmaster Fraternity and Percussive Arts Society. He received a certificate of merit for marching excellence from the Band Masters Association in 2012 and served as guest conductor for the Quad State Senior High Music Festival at MSU in 2009.

He succeeds Rob Bryant, who is retiring.

MNHHS Principal DeDe Ashby said she’s excited about the opportunity to continue to work with Adams in his new role.

“He has a big heart for students, is very talented, and will no doubt continue the tradition of excellence with the Maroon band program,” she said. “He will take a team approach to leadership, working collaboratively with the booster organization and inspiring many up-and-coming musicians.”
