Chamber Celebrates Employment Agency’s New Location

OWENSBORO, Ky. (3/18/14) – A business that’s been around for about 30 years as a temporary staffing agency invited the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce to conduct a ribbon cutting at its new location.

But that wasn’t the only change the company was celebrating.

“We’re an ‘old’ new business,” Talent Force Branch Manager David Owens said somewhat jokingly, as he talked with SurfKY about the history of the company.

What started out as a locally owned agency named Employment Staffing, later joined a larger organization, resulting in the name change to Temporary Professionals.

A couple of years ago, the company’s structure changed again when Temporary Professionals was divided into more specialized categories.

Talent Force’s focus is on the industrial side of employment, while Temporary Professionals remains centered on office-type jobs. Both are still owned by the same company.

Talent Force then moved into its own building on 9th Street in October, and Owens said once that was complete the time was right to hold a ribbon cutting with the Chamber. He said rejoining the Chamber was an important component of the business’ future.

“We need to be part of the business community,” he said.

Owens said the company gets about 125 applications each month, and hires 40 percent of all applicants for various jobs. He said the company makes an effort to screen candidates to make sure the right person is hired for the right job as much as possible.

“We’re trying to elevate the quality of the workforce,” he said. “We’d like to be known as the staffing company that has the best people and the best quality workers.”

When asked what criteria the company uses to make hiring recommendations, Owens said the main aspect is what he referred to as “soft skills.”

Dependability, work ethic, punctuality, sense of responsibility, and initiative,” Owens said of the criteria, noting that people who don’t show up for an interview or the job orientation sessions usually don’t get past that part of the process. Passing a drug test is also a requirement to be offered a job through Talent Force.

Making sure applicants have the right skill set to be able to do the job is also important.

To learn more, visit Talent Force online or at its Owensboro location, 101 E. 9th Street, Owensboro, Ky. 42303.
