murray baseball 300MURRAY, Ky. (5/13/13) – Murray State closed out the 2013 road schedule Sunday afternoon as they fell 12-1 to Belmont in the final game of a three-game series at Rose Park.

The Breds (20-31, 8-19 OVC) got on the board in the first inning as Brandon Elliott drew a one-out walk, and was followed by singles from Brandon Elliott and Mike Kozlowski to load the bases. Dalton West plated the run with a fielder’s choice into the hole at short.

The Bruins (36-15, 21-6 OVC) came back with three runs in the fourth to take their first lead of the game. Matt Beaty drove in a run with a double to left center and scored on an Alec Diamond single through the right side. Jamie Ritchie drove in the third run with a sacrifice fly to center field.

BU took advantage of a pair of MUR errors in the fifth to score three runs without the benefit of a hit. A two-base error started the inning, but the Breds were able to cut the runner down at the plate two batters later. With runners on the corners, a muffed throw on a pickoff attempt allowed the first run of the inning to score. A walk and a hit by pitch loaded the bases before Diamond and Ritchie drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks.

The lead grew in the sixth as a throwing error helped the first run score before Judah Akers delivered a sacrifice fly to center field and Diamond delivered an RBI single to right center.

Cameron Finch (5-4) took the loss after allowing six runs, three earned, on six hits and five walks over 4.2 innings. James Buckelew (5-4) picked up the win after allowing one run on six hits over five innings.

The Breds close out the 2013 season as they host Eastern Kentucky in a three-game series May 16-18 at Reagan Field.
