parker mccalister websterWEBSTER COUNTY, KY (6/13/12) – Webster County High School’s search for a new girls’ basketball coach ended this week when Parker McCalister accepted the position. He will replace Christina Whitsell who resigned in April.

Coach McCalister graduated from Madisonville North Hopkins High School in 1997 and continued his athletic career at Brescia University in Owensboro where he lettered in baseball and basketball for four years. He also played golf for one season for the Bearcats.

McCalister began his coaching career in 2003 at Hopkins County Central under Shawn Oakley then Matt Bell. He then transferred to Madisonville-North Hopkins and worked under Coach James Davis for one year and one year under current Maroon coach Marty Cline. McCalister emphasized that he’s had his eye on Webster County for several years and is “thrilled” with the chance of taking over a tradition-rich program that should once again compete for a regional title next season.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for me and my family. The girls program at Webster County has been outstanding for as long as I can remember. We will have several players returning and with hard work we will have a good chance to be successful,” said McCalister. “My roommate in college, Shaun Townsend, is a great player from Dixon so I have spent many hours with him here in the county and I have had a great passion for the area since my college days. I have had the distinct pleasure working with Tim Roy and Matt Bell at Hopkins County Central and look forward to working with them again.”

McCalister has taken a three-year break from coaching to earn his first and second masters degrees and he has full intention to pursue a doctorate in leadership beginning in the summer of 2013. He has taught Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and Geometry over his 10 years in education and was voted “Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year in 2007”.  But he noted he hasn’t lost his passion for basketball and after conservations with his former college coaches, he knew that WCHS was the perfect job.

“I’m excited to begin working with the team and look forward to our journey this season with this great group of young ladies,” he concluded.

Coach McCalister is married to Laci Jade McCalister and has a 10-month-old son named Kristopher Barrett (KB).
