Run for Rachel Draws Nearly 100 Runners

CENTRAL CITY, Ky. (7/30/13) – All Muhlenberg County citizens seem to agree that there is nothing that can stop Rachel Pentecost, her loving family and friends.
 
The outpouring of love and prayers has only grown, as more and more people have learned of her tragic car accident on May 21st.
 
Rachel has amazed specialists at Vanderbilt Hospital by beating the odds of survival in the days immediately following her wreck on a rain slick road.
 
Last week, after numerous grueling surgeries, Rachel again amazed many, taking the long way home from a painful three hour trip from the hospital to her Muhlenberg County home. While many would have opted to go straight home after enduring the bumpy ride back from Nashville, Rachel took the time to ride through Greenville, not once but twice, to wave to hundreds of supporters lining the streets.
 
Saturday, she surprised many once again, by insisting she show up and cheer on the nearly 100 participants in the 'Run For Rachel 5K' event at the Central City Convention Center. Rachel and her family clapped and yelled encouragement as each and every runner crossed the finish line.
 
Rachel told Surfky.com News, "I'm feeling better this morning so I really wanted to come out to cheer on all the runners. I just thank everyone for all the prayers that have gone up."
 
Rachel added that she will "go back to the doctor in three weeks. I got good news Friday. I may not have to have a graft put back on. It looks like it may heal by itself. I still have to have the femur surgery though."
 
As for the show of support she has received, Rachel said, "It's just awesome. I couldn't have made it without it. It just pushes me to fight that much harder."
 
Rachel's mother explained, matter-of-factly, that "we know the power of prayer is what brought her through. We are so thankful for all that the local community has done, and we just want God to get the glory. He brought Rachel through so much."
 
As yet another powerful example of how Rachel has touched so many lives, Lisa Long, an RN at Vanderbilt Medical Center, drove all the way from Nashville on Saturday to take part in the run.
 
"I began taking care of Rachel a few days after she arrived at the hospital. All the nurses that have taken care of her since the beginning have just been floored by her rapid progress. Rachel has made a very big impact on my life. It's not every day that you get to meet a girl like her. She is truly a miracle." Long said.
