ParadiseParkHOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (9/3/13) – Representatives from Muhlenberg County were successful in getting the cooperation of the Hopkins County Fiscal Court in further development of the Paradise Industrial Park near Graham to help entice industry to the area.

Hopkins and Muhlenberg are part of the five-county Paradise Park Regional Industrial Authority along with Daviess, McLean and Ohio counties. Multi-county Coal Severance funds have helped develop the infrastructure that has been placed at the park including water lines, sewer, cable, phone lines and electricity access.

Muhlenberg Judge-Executive Rick Newman and Muhlenberg Alliance for Progress Director Ken Robinson asked Hopkins Fiscal Court to join with the other counties in each paying $21,000 for a 100,000 square-foot concrete pad to be constructed on the park's 375-acre property.

After the pad has been created, state funding will be sought to help build a spec building, said Newman.

"We are asking the member counties for 17 percent, which is $21,000, and Muhlenberg will assume about 32 percent of the cost as the host county," Robinson told the court.

The 17 percent of the expense is the proportional revenue that Hopkins County will receive from the occupational tax imposed on industries located within the park, which is off the Western Kentucky Parkway, said Robinson.

Newman said the Muhlenberg Road Department will be doing much of the labor involved in forming and laying the concrete pad, which has resulted in lowered costs for the project.

Fiscal Court voted unanimously to pay the amount from its general fund.

Also, during the Hopkins County regular bi-monthly meeting, the court gave second reading to setting the county's tax rate at 14.40 cents per hundred dollar assessment for real property; 10.03 cents per hundred for motor vehicles and watercraft; and, 22.48 cents for tangible personal property.
