OWENSBORO, Ky. (4/19/13) – Apollo High School is planning a flag football camp for special needs players ages 14-22. The camp is free for boys and young men with physical, developmental or intellectual challenges.
The camp will conclude with an exhibition game that is open to the public. The Apollo/ Independence Bank Eagles Bowl 2013 begins at 6:30 p.m. May 31. Admission is free, but donations will be accepted with proceeds benefiting Puzzle Pieces activity day center for individuals with intellectual disabilities; the Green River Area Down Syndrome Association; Special Olympics; and the local chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children.
The event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. May 29 through May 31 at the high school, located at 2280 Tamarack Road. All participants will receive a camp T-shirt.
The flag football camp – the first of its kind in the area – is sponsored by the Apollo High School Football Program. AHS head football coach Dan Crume, who is overseeing the program, said the camp is designed to provide a positive experience for the participants while introducing the fundamentals of the game of football and creating an opportunity to play.
