meadow lands elem 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (4/4/14) – Looking for an idea for a community service project the school’s Boys’ Group could get involved with led roughly 40 students and staff from Meadow Lands Elementary school to visit the local Habitat for Humanity office yesterday.

MLES Principal Kevin Lowe told SurfKY News that “helping others is the theme” of the program. Each grade level has its own group, and students normally work within their own class on various projects.

The Boys’ Group had planned to visit a Habitat house currently under construction, but instead visited the main office due to the severe weather. During their visit, students met Habitat Executive Director Virginia Braswell and staff members, and had the opportunity to learn about floor plan design as well as see examples of homes that have been built in the past.

The students also brought in coolers of snacks and drinks for the workers.
