Green Day's Armstrong, Norah Jones Everly Brothers Tribute Released

ev brothers1 300MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (11/27/13) — Just in time for Thanksgiving, a new generation is paying tribute to the music of Muhlenberg County rock legends — The Everly Brothers.

Billie Jo Armstrong, of the super group Green Day, and singer Norah Jones, have teamed up to celebrate the music of Don and Phil Everly, on an album entitled "Foreverly". The original album from 1958 was called, "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us", and now it's been recreated, song by song, for a new generation to discover. Many critics seem pleasantly surprised that an unlikely male/female duo would spontaneously team up to take on the music of Don and Phil.

Much of the original album of traditional songs were written by Tex Ritter, Gene Autry and others. There's even a song called "Kentucky".

The new album is enjoying brisk sales and rave reviews across the nation. And although the album may not have any stand out "top 40 hits" many Everly fans are finding a true blue sound in the new versions of old songs that bring back memories.

Diana Sue Taylor is related to the Everly family, and said she loves the new album.

"It sounds very much like the original songs, and I'm sure Don and Phil are honored with this tribute." she said. "I was 9 years old when we went to the Hammond, Ind. Civic Center to hear them perform. They were set to take a job in Indiana and stop touring. But then "Bye Bye Love" became a huge hit, and the rest is history."

Angie Smith hosts a Facebook page dedicated entirely to all things Everly called The Everly Heavenly Music Group. She told Surfky News she is really excited about the new album.

"Even those of us who were never really Green Day fans are really amazed at what a great job Billie Jo Armstrong and Norah Jones did,” said Smith. “I'm so glad there are artists out there who want to pay tribute to the Everly Brothers.”

You'll find several samples of "Foreverly" all over YouTube.com and the album is in stores nationwide.
