Mother Goose Rocking into Greenville’s Palace Theatre

rockin mother goose 300MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (5/4/13) – What was the first book you ever learned to read? For many the answer is very likely Mother Goose rhymes.

We've all learned to love the wonderful tales of Mother Goose from before we even learned to talk. Moms and dads around the world have fascinated their children reading the adventures of Hickory Dickory Dock, The Itsy Bitsy Spider, Little Bo-Peep and Little Boy Blue.

Friday, May 17th at 7 p.m., and Sunday, May 19th at 2 you and your kids, or grand kids can come "Rocking with Mother Goose" at the Greenville Palace Theatre.

Muhlenberg Community Theatre (MCTI) will bring Mother Goose and her many tales to life, with your favorite characters appearing before your eyes.

Tickets are only $5.00

Leslie England, one of the directors and a member of the board at MCTI, teaches at Longest Elementary. She says the real fun of this production is the involvement of many young actors, who have grown up on the stage, bringing to life Little Bo-Beep, Old King Cole, The Old Women in the Shoe, Jack and Jill, Mary Quite Contrary, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Little Miss Muffett, Three Men in a Tub, and some surprise visits. It's also been fun watching as characters express their frustrations with some of their parts, giving their side of story."

By that, England means that "Jack doesn't want to fall down and break his crown. Miss Muffet does not want to eat curds and whey. Mary Quite Contrary does not like her garden. I've even discovered, lost verses of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star that we're going to teach the children to sing."

"We're also having a silent auction of rocking chair painted by local people. Themes of the various chairs include Dr. Seuss U of L, U.K, and patriotic." She said.

England stresses that funds raised, "will help since we are still trying to pay off the building adjacent to the theatre. Paying that off would really help free up money to teach our youth interested in the theatre, and we could also do more with our productions."

The silent auction features rocking chairs and many other items donated by area businesses, will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, followed by the final bidding from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. All proceeds go to MCTI.

Advance tickets are on sale now by calling 270- 977-1531 or 270-338-7165. You can also log on to www.tourgreenville.com for complete details.
