Owensboro Seal 02 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (7/18/13) – Following a somewhat rigorous process of compiling more than 100 online surveys, the first of three input sessions about the feedback regarding the various priorities for the community offered a group of roughly 20 people the chance to prioritize the list of requests.

Split into groups of three, two of the groups reached the same conclusion – that the need for development of an Interstate 67 should top the list of transportation projects with I-69 as a close second. However, the third group put I-69 before I-67, indicating that the price might be “too significant to pay.”

In the area of education, all three groups agreed moving the second phase of development for the Owensboro Community and Technology Center along should top the list of priorities.

Other top issues for Owensboro as pointed out during the discussion included maintaining funding for the airport, expanding wi-fi service, developing and promoting more sports opportunities, and a Riverfront walkway.

Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce President Amy Jackson, who served as facilitator at the discussion, told SurfKY News this is the first time that community input has been compiled in this way. She said the goal of the project is to consolidate lobbying efforts among Daviess County area groups and organizations to improve the chances of bringing more funding back to this region.

Following the completion of input sessions, the final list of priorities will be unveiled at the September Rooster Booster breakfast. A second input session is planned for Friday at noon at Audubon Area Community Services, and the third session will be held immediately following the August Rooster Booster breakfast at Owensboro Christian Church.
